Managing

Anger

“Anyone can become angry, that is easy…but to be angry with the right person, to the right degree, at the right time, for the right purpose, and in the right way…this is not easy.” — Aristotle

Although anger can be a good thing, for example to help motivate you to find ways out when you’re feeling trapped, it can also in excess cause problems. For instance, it can cause you and others difficulties in your relationships if you’re focusing your anger in harmful ways; It can also cause problems with your physical and mental health; and it can cause you to not be able to solve you’re problems because you can’t think as well.

That is why we have Anger management programmes. Often anger arises because we feel frustrated, or because we’re feeling other feeling such as fear. It helps people to find ways to learn how to identify, control and channel anger in more positive and less harmful ways. Anger management programs consider anger as a natural reaction with an identifiable reason which can be recognised and once recognised dealt with in appropriate healthy and helpful ways (Schwarts, 2006).
