The ICP is the only independent professional group of privately practicing Clinical Psychologists in WA.
Clinical Psychologists are specialists in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of psychological problems and mental illness. Most clinical psychologists develop expertise in specific areas, or practice in sub-specialisations of Clinical Psychology. ICP members work in all areas of WA and you can find details of each member’s specialty in the members section or the Find a Clinical Psychologist area of this website.
A clinical psychologist has a minimum of eight years of training and has completed a masters or doctorate degree that includes mandatory training in a clinical environment, mandatory scientific research and two years of supervision, in addition to psychologist training.
All members are currently registered with the Psychologists Board of WA as "Clinical Psychologists" OR "Clinical Psychologist Registrars". Only Clinical Psychologists and Clinical Psychologist Registrars may become members of the ICP.
The ICP is dedicated to informing general practitioners, psychiatrists, paediatricians, medical specialists, allied health practitioners, the general public and potential clients and patients of the kinds of services provided by privately practicing Clinical Psychologists.
The ICP negotiates with government, the APS, Medicare, Workcover, private health funds, public service, academic institutions, other professional groups and whomever relevant, on all matters enhancing the private practice of Clinical Psychology in WA. The ICP also discusses with the appropriate authorities, the reimbursement of Clinical Psychologists’ fees from private health benefit funds and Medicare.
The ICP promotes the training, skills and knowledge of present and future private practitioners of Clinical Psychology through providing seminars, workshops, supervision, mentoring and other professional development activities. The ICP also encourages harmonious relationships between Clinical Psychologists in private practice and members of related professions.
